Exploring the Latest Happenings in Vibrant Cabbagetown – Friday May 19, 2023
Nestled in the heart of Toronto, Cabbagetown is a neighbourhood that boasts a rich history, diverse community, and a vibrant atmosphere. From its charming Victorian homes to its bustling streets, Cabbagetown continues to be a sought-after destination for residents and visitors alike. In this blog series, we’ll keep you updated with what’s happening with the 2023 Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show as well as showcasing events in this dynamic neighbourhood, its cultural events, culinary delights, and community initiatives.
Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show 2023:
The Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show takes place the weekend after Labour Day from 1pm Friday September 8 through 5pm Sunday September 10, in Riverdale Park West, next to Riverdale Farm.
While it’s a little early to start our countdown to September, lots of things are already moving along behind the scenes. The many hundreds of artists who applied continue to be juried by a panel of fellow practising artists with a deep knowledge of the local creative landscape. Jurying started in early April and the deadline for applications is May 31. We aim to finalize our list of exhibitors by the end of June, and you can view the list on our website in early July. We’re excited to see many long-time exhibitors with large followings return this year as well as lots of new creative talent, many of them exhibiting with us for the first time.
The Cabbagetown Art & Craft Show is organized, staffed and managed solely by community volunteers and our volunteer team is in full swing sourcing everything that’s required for the show. Right now, we’re focused on our checklist of city permits, event insurance, tents, ATMs, portable toilets, security, and exhibitor parking, as well as selecting musicians and hot food vendors. We’re pleased to report that everything’s happening on schedule, and everyone is looking forward to September. The show will go on, rain or shine!
We have made several changes to the show this year, all intended to make the experience more appealing for our visitors and our exhibitors. Come back to this blog to learn more about these changes and the show’s progress over the next three months.

We’re very excited! The Cabbagetown Farmers’ Market opened this week on Tuesday May 16 and will remain open every Tuesday until October 31.
The Market is a beloved weekly event that brings together residents and local farmers to celebrate fresh produce, artisanal goods, and sustainable living. Every Tuesday, the park comes alive with colourful stalls offering an array of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and handmade crafts. The market not only encourages healthy eating and local shopping but also provides a platform for farmers to connect directly with the community, this year featuring almost three dozen vendors – the biggest collection yet! Vendors include Fifthtown Artisan Cheese, Banjo Cider, Clovercroft Farm and so many more.
